Day 1: Arrival in Moshi or Arusha

  • Activities:
    • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
    • Transfer to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha.
    • Pre-trek briefing with your guides, safety orientation, and gear check.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
  • Meals: Dinner.

Day 2: Rongai Gate (1,950m) to Simba Camp (2,600m)

  • Distance: 8 km | Time: 4-5 hours | Altitude Gain: 650m.

  • Trek Details:

    • After breakfast, drive to Rongai Gate on the northern side of Kilimanjaro.
    • Begin the trek through lush forest and farmland with occasional views of wildlife like colobus monkeys and elephants.
    • Arrive at Simba Camp for dinner and overnight.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Simba Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 3: Simba Camp (2,600m) to Second Cave (3,450m)

  • Distance: 7 km | Time: 4-5 hours | Altitude Gain: 850m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Hike through the heath and moorland zone, where the terrain becomes drier.
    • Enjoy views of Mawenzi Peak, one of Kilimanjaro’s volcanic cones.
    • Arrive at Second Cave for overnight rest.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Second Cave.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 4: Second Cave (3,450m) to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)

  • Distance: 6 km | Time: 3-4 hours | Altitude Gain: 150m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Continue the trek through rolling moorlands and ridges with stunning views of the surrounding plains.
    • Arrive at Kikelewa Camp near a small stream.
    • Relax and acclimatize with a shorter hiking day.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Kikelewa Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 5: Kikelewa Camp (3,600m) to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)

  • Distance: 5 km | Time: 4-5 hours | Altitude Gain: 730m.

  • Trek Details:

    • A steep climb takes you into the alpine desert zone.
    • Trek to Mawenzi Tarn Camp, located beneath the jagged Mawenzi Peak.
    • Spend the afternoon exploring the area and acclimatizing.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Mawenzi Tarn Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 6: Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m) to Kibo Hut (4,700m)

  • Distance: 9 km | Time: 5-7 hours | Altitude Gain: 370m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks, a desolate and windy high-altitude desert.
    • Arrive at Kibo Hut, your base camp for the summit attempt.
    • Rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit climb.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Kibo Hut.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 7: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), Descend to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

  • Distance: 21 km | Time: 12-14 hours | Altitude Gain: 1,195m | Altitude Loss: 2,175m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Start the summit trek at midnight, climbing steep switchbacks to reach Gilman’s Point (5,685m) by sunrise.
    • Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, and enjoy the breathtaking sunrise views.
    • Descend to Kibo Hut for rest, then proceed further down to Horombo Hut for the night.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Horombo Hut.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 8: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,870m) – Return to Moshi/Arusha

  • Distance: 20 km | Time: 5-7 hours | Altitude Loss: 1,850m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Descend through the heath and rainforest zones to Marangu Gate.
    • Receive your summit certificates and bid farewell to your mountain crew.
    • Transfer back to Moshi/Arusha for relaxation and celebration.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi/Arusha.

  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch.


Day 9: Departure Day

  • Activities:
    • Relax at the hotel or explore Moshi town before transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
  • Meals: Breakfast.
