Day 1: Arrival in Moshi or Arusha

  • Activities:
    • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
    • Transfer to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha for pre-trek briefing, gear check, and safety orientation.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi/Arusha.
  • Meals: Dinner.

Day 2: Umbwe Gate (1,670m) to Umbwe Camp (2,850m)

  • Distance: 10 km | Time: 5-7 hours | Altitude Gain: 1,180m.

  • Trek Details:

    • After breakfast, transfer to the Umbwe Gate for registration.
    • Begin the trek through dense rainforest, experiencing a steep and challenging climb.
    • The trail is narrow and rocky, with occasional views of wildlife and lush vegetation.
    • Arrive at Umbwe Camp (2,850m) for overnight.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Umbwe Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 3: Umbwe Camp (2,850m) to Barranco Camp (3,950m)

  • Distance: 6 km | Time: 6-7 hours | Altitude Gain: 1,100m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Continue your ascent through the heath and moorland zone, with increasingly dramatic scenery.
    • The trail becomes more exposed, with large cliffs and rocky sections.
    • Arrive at Barranco Camp (3,950m) in the shadow of Barranco Wall, a prominent feature of the route.
    • Barranco Camp offers stunning views of Kibo Peak and Mawenzi Peak.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Barranco Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

  • Distance: 4 km | Time: 3-4 hours | Altitude Gain: 85m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Today, tackle the Barranco Wall, a non-technical but strenuous rock scramble.
    • The climb offers spectacular views and a sense of adventure, but it’s a manageable challenge for most climbers.
    • Once at the top of the Barranco Wall, continue across the Karanga Valley and ascend to Karanga Camp (4,035m), a short day that allows for proper acclimatization.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Karanga Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 5: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

  • Distance: 6 km | Time: 4-5 hours | Altitude Gain: 605m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Ascend to Barafu Camp (4,640m), which is the base camp for the summit attempt.
    • The terrain becomes increasingly barren as you approach the high-altitude desert zone.
    • Enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak as you prepare for the summit attempt.
    • Arrive at Barafu Camp in the afternoon, rest, and eat an early dinner.
    • Get ready for the summit trek, which will begin in the middle of the night.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Barafu Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 6: Summit Day – Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

  • Distance: 20 km | Time: 12-15 hours | Altitude Gain: 1,255m | Altitude Loss: 2,795m.

  • Trek Details:

    • Midnight Start: Begin the summit trek at midnight from Barafu Camp.
    • The ascent is steep, and climbers will reach Gilman’s Point (5,685m) around sunrise, with views of the glaciers and the crater floor.
    • Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, for stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
    • After reaching the summit, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest.
    • Continue the descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for overnight.
  • Accommodation: Tent at Mweka Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m)

  • Distance: 10 km | Time: 3-4 hours | Altitude Loss: 1,460m.

  • Trek Details:

    • After breakfast, continue the descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
    • At the gate, you will be awarded your summit certificate if you reached Uhuru Peak or Gilman’s Point.
    • Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha for a celebration of your achievement.
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi/Arusha.

  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch.


Day 8: Departure Day

  • Activities:
    • Relax at your hotel or explore Moshi/Arusha before transferring to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight.
  • Meals: Breakfast.
